Paid Communications Internship with a Progressive Nonprofit in D.C

Are you a graduate student or recent graduate looking to build skills and experience in nonprofit communications through a PAID year-long internship? 

 

The National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP) in Washington, D.C., is looking for you to help us promote philanthropy that is accountable, effective and responsive to the needs of underserved communities. 

 

You’ll gain hands-on experience in the day-to-day planning and execution of a nonprofit’s communications programming, such as writing blog posts, email marketing, design, social media, media outreach and more.

 

You’ll boost your project planning skills. You’ll learn more about the nonprofit and philanthropy sectors and how we are striving to move the needle for a more equitable society.

 

You will be mentored by a seasoned Communications Manager.

Areas of Learning and Responsibilities

Email Marketing

  • Create monthly e-newsletters, announcements and other email messages sent to our electronic mailing lists
  • Manage mailing lists.
  • Track, update and analyze statistics.

Social Media

  • Track, update and analyze social media statistics.
  • Draft social media images and posts as needed.

Website

  • Update ncrp.org as needed for media mentions, new reports, monthly polls and other types of content.
  • Track, update and analyze monthly website statistics.

Blog

  • Assist in sourcing and publishing staff and guest blog posts.
  • Write blog posts.
  • Create social images for blog posts as needed.

Media

  • Track media mentions.
  • Create and maintain media lists.

Database

  • Update mailing lists and contact information as needed.
  • Manage automated workflows as needed.

PowerPoint Presentations

  • Assist in developing presentation slides as needed.

Administrative

  • Assist in record keeping and coordinating with communications vendors.

Other duties as needed

 

Skills and Experience

Required:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill and convey information clearly and concisely.
  • Detail-oriented with a can-do, roll-up-your-sleeves attitude.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills, yet comfortable with priority changes.
  • Has a passion for social justice.
  • High level of professionalism and outstanding work ethic.

Ideal:

  • Recent college graduate or graduate student with a background in PR, Communications, Marketing, Journalism or Graphic Design.
  • Experience with Canva, Sprout Social and Google Analytics.
  • Familiarity and/or working knowledge of relationship management databases like Salesforce.
  • Familiarity with Associated Press Stylebook.
  • Experience with email marketing software and Wordpress.
  • Working knowledge of HTML.

Hours and Salary: This is a 20- to 25-hour per week internship paid at a rate of $15/hour.
